Creating a healthier world

Creating Healthy Communities and Kinship (CHECK) Medical Mission Incorporated is an international Faith- based Non Governmental Organization that is committed to creating healthier communities through the provision of Health Education, Advocacy and the Love of Christ (H.E.A.L).

Our History

The Burden
Since my people are crushed,
I am crushed.

I mourn, and horror grips me.
Is there no balm in GILEAD, is there no physician there?
Why then is there no healing for the wounds of my people”.
– Jeremiah

The Pioneers
Adeleye and Omotayo met in 2012 as medical volunteers for the Nigerian Christian Corpers Fellowship (NCCF) during their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Adamawa state. They were moved by the high morbidity and mortality rates, especially of women and children in the rural communities as they regularly participated in the medical outreaches (rural rugged) of the state.

Omotayo is a veterinary doctor by training and usually served at the pharmacy department. She was also the State treasurer of the organization, while Adeleye is a medical doctor who usually led the consultation department. He was also appointed as the chief medical personnel of the organization.

Their excellent working relationship helped them to cater for hundreds of clients in few hours.

Their strong commitment to providing excellent care inspired Omotayo to pursue her master’s degree in pharmacology and subsequently a Ph.D. in toxicology.

Adeleye also pursued a residency program in family medicine at a renowned mission hospital in Ibadan, where he received further training in emergency medicine, general surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, ENT, psychiatry, orthopaedics, anaesthesia and public health.

As the organization grew, they saw the need to suspend their academic pursuits to focus on charity work.

Today, CHECK has a multidisciplinary team comprising diverse categories of health professionals and specialists. This has helped to maintain the organisation’s well-established culture of excellence since its inception.

Journey so far
Six months after completing the National Youth Service, Adeleye and Omotayo got married and decided to spend the rest of their lives improving the healthcare of humanity. Balm of GILEAD Initiative (now CHECK) was inaugurated on their wedding day, Saturday 14th December 2013. Their Church allowed them to use the church office for free consultations, and they also miraculously received a free donation of some drugs to kickstart their work. They thereafter shared the vision with some medical and nursing students who were excited to become volunteers.

In 7 years, CHECK has grown to become one of the fastest-growing non-profit healthcare organizations in Africa, having facilitated outreaches to over 130 communities across the 6 geopolitical zones in Nigeria and neighbouring African countries.

In addition to community outreaches, CHECK has also been involved in secondary school outreaches, prison outreaches, market outreaches, brothel outreaches, media outreaches, and orphanage outreaches just to mention a few.

Annual Conference
Every year since 2017, CHECK brings together young and aspiring healthcare professionals, entrepreneurs and leaders to brainstorm on practical and effective ways to improve the standard of healthcare in the country, in an impactful, life-transforming conference popularly known as the World Shakers International Platform (W.O.R.S.H.I.P).

The themes of past conferences are outlined below:

2020: High-flyers (Leveraging to create a healthier world)

In 2020, CHECK came into the limelight after successfully organising 2 mega outreaches to Ofiki land and Ogbomoso with the support of her grand patrons who are prominent Royal fathers in those communities (His Royal Highness, Oba Adeoye Gbenga Adigun and His Royal Majesty, Oba Sunday Oyediran). Thousand of clients were catered for, with over a hundred surgeries done. The event, which was a groundbreaking success was reported by media houses including the Nigerian Tribune and Insight news publications.

The Future

As a burgeoning health advocacy organization, we also strive to be a key player in helping Nigeria, Africa, and other developing countries around the world to achieve the SDGs by 2030, as well as universal health coverage.
